Lamprey Migrating into Cashmere Stream

While doing some post-restoration monitoring in Cashmere Stream, Derek Gerber spotted this lamprey returning from the sea to spawn, and Saskia Brown captured it on video. The lamprey's bright blue colour provides good camouflage in the ocean, but its colour will soon change to brown as it spends more time in freshwater. It's always exciting seeing lamprey, because they're secretive, rare, and have a remarkable life history.
